The New Harbord Diggers has unveiled their 2-year redevelopment and, with that, a state-of-the-art digital interactive aquarium.
The team at Harbord Diggers approached us with plans for a 12-screen video wall centerpiece. We instantly knew this would be sure to catch the attention of visitors, so the content had to be immersive, in-keeping with the environment, and engaging enough to appeal to their intergenerational community. To achieve this, we developed this state-of-the-art interactive wall.
The Mounties Group development is considered a one-of-a-kind intergenerational community hub, offering the greatest cafes, restaurants and residences in the area. Boasting world-class architecture, facilities and services, it’s no surprise that Harbord Diggers are also innovating in the digital realm.
The Harbord Diggers Interactive Wall is already a multifaceted solution; bringing together much more than just an underwater aquarium scene.
From the outset, the idea was to integrate a basic solution as Phase 1 to accomodate Harbord Diggers timeframes.
On the left you’ll see a floating social media feed, which pulls content directly from @HarbordDiggers tagged Instagram photos. The interactive feed gives users the opportunity to enlarge and drag the images around the video wall. With this feature, we developed a custom back-end portal which allows Harbord Diggers to approve posts to feature.
On the right is an option for users to interact further with the videowall; Press “Feed Fish” and a suite of animal animations are unlocked. Alternatively, click on “History” and you can watch key videos about the Harbord Diggers journey.
We have also integrated basic artificial intelligence into the solution. Bubbles appear at your fingertips when interacting with the videowall, and schools of fish will become curious and investigate the bubbles. It’s these ‘small’ details which add depth and immersion to the overall solution.

Working with the Harbord Diggers team, Phase 2 development is almost complete.
We will continue implementing more advanced interactivity and immersion, including; artificial intelligence, real-time effects and new scenes. The possibilities really are endless when creating interactive solutions such as this, with the only restriction being budget.
We are looking at creating multiple scenes to swap between with real-time effects, such as the weather in the scene reacting to the real weather outside, through to further personalisation with the social media feed and even more immersion with the touch interactions, to name a few.
